The Big Topic for 2016?

"The HIPAA Security Standards require physicians to protect the security of patients' electronic medical information through the use of procedures and mechanisms that protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information."

- AMA Guidelines -

Email, electronic health records, and increasingly, patient portals, can all put your patients' privacy, and the security of their medical records, at risk. And no practice is too small to meet HIPAA security requirements. It's also true that your EHR vendor, even if certified, doesn't relieve your practice of the burden of performing a risk analysis on a regular basis.

Quote 1.gifIt's equally true that many, if not most, physician practices have neither the time nor the expertise to assure the kind of security that your patients require and deserve. It's complicated, time-consuming, and an ever-changing target for sophisticated cyber-attacks. And while the quote below may be amusing, it's also fair enough to say that a physician practice has expert patient care as its first concern and focus of concentration.

That's why NPS is your partner for your IT security concerns: that's what we do, all day, every day. We can offer your practice a selection of services tailored to meet the size, scope, and needs of your practice. Talk with us about:

ICD-10 and Revenue Cycle Management

What Does This Mean for YOUR Practice?

ICD-10 is the 10th revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems(ICD), a medical classification list by the World Health Organization (WHO), containing more than 14,400 codes for diseases, signs and symptoms, abnormal findings, complaints, social circumstances, and external causes of injury or diseases. That set can be expanded to over 16,000 codes using optional sub-classifications.

As of October 1, 2015, the United States began implementation of ICD-10 for diagnosis coding, allowing for refined reimbursement and resource allocation throughout the national health care network. This is just one of the many factors that have increased the complexity of billing and revenue cycles requiring physician practices to streamline and automate this essential business process, so they can comfortably focus on improving patient care.

In simplest terms: your practice stands to lose money with improper coding, delayed billing, and the extra time required to bring back-office staff up to speed on the new ICD-10 coding.

NPS, together with our service partner, Convergent Solutions, Inc. (CSI), has built a service line that can help your practice achieve maximum benefit from properly configured systems and technology. Our services include:
  • Custom workflow processes and systems designed to ensure optimal charge and resource capture
  • Proprietary rules based charge process customized to practice business rules for coding and reimbursement
  • Expert ICD-9/ICD-10/CPT certified coding
  • Provider and staff training
  • Comprehensive fee analysis/payment verification to ensure contract compliance
  • Provider enrollment/re-credentialing
  • Extensive analytical services to ensure data availability for key decision points
